Professionals testify before Pennsylvania House on stimulant use and abuse

HARRISBURG, Dec. 14 – The use of Ritalin as a prescription drug for hyperactive children was the topic of a public hearing held today by the House Democratic Policy Committee. Martin Murcek, M.D., Christopher A. Petersen, M.D. and others testified to the House Committee called by Rep. Lescovitz and Rep. Washington on the use of Ritalin and other medications that are used to treat ADHD/ADD.  Controversy includes the differing views among professionals, legislators and the media as to whether children are overmedicated or appropriately treated.

"Our hearing is designed to help educate Pennsylvania parents on the Ritalin issue as it may affect their children," Lescovitz has said.

Dr. Martin A. Murcek from Westmoreland County.
George Schmidt, Psychologist, East Pennsboro School District 

Dr. Louis Fulimer, an Intermediate Unit 17 psychologist.
Nancy Starling, a Cumberland County school nurse.
Fran Gercham, Forest City School District school counselor.
