OTTAWA: Preliminary results from some studies have found that seasonal flu shots may increase the risk of catching Influenza A(H1N1), Canadian scientists said Wednesday.  Researchers know that, theoretically, when people are exposed to bacteria or a virus, it can stimulate the immune system to create antibodies that facilitate the entry of another strain of the virus or disease.

[Editor:  There may be a much simpler explanation.  Many people that get the flu shot are health professionals or are in other high risk groups for exposure.  Perhaps these same people are more likely to be exposed to the H1N1 virus also, thus creating a higher rate of infection in this same group.]

The findings were reported in The Star Online.
